KENANSVILLE — Addison Page Morgan and Da’Quan O’Neal Moore were crowned Mr. and Ms. JSCC 2012-13 during the coronation pageant held Friday evening, Dec. 7 in Monk Auditorium on the JSCC campus.
A native of Duplin County, Morgan is a Duplin Early College High School (DECHS) student graduating in 2015 with an Associate in Arts degree. She is active in the Youth Technology Corps at DECHS. Her interests are music, fashion, and style and she plans to attend Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte to further her education in Event Management. Morgan is the daughter of Marci and Scott Morgan of Chinquapin.
Da’Quan Moore, a native of Sampson County, is studying for his Associate in Arts degree in Computer Information Technology. Moore plans to enter the workforce upon graduation in 2014. His interest is in singing and he is a youth leader in Deliverance Victory Temple in Harrells. Moore is the son of Miriam and Robert Moore of Harrells, and has a brother and sister.
Participating contestants for Ms. JSCC included Keyarrah Monique Coor, Associate in Arts; Addison Page Morgan, Associate in Arts; and LaWanda Sherrell Smith, Cosmetoloy and Business Administration; and for Mr. JSCC, Da’Quan O’Neal Moore, Computer Information Technology student. Contestants competed in Business Wear, Talent, and Formal Wear Competitions, as well as an interview process.
First runner-up was LaWanda Smith and second runner-up was awarded to Keyarrah Coor. Mr. and Ms. Academic Achievement and Mr. and Ms. Photogenic went to Addison Morgan and Da’Quan Moore. Mr. and Ms. Congeniality went to Keyarrah Coor and Da’Quan Moore.
Mr. and Ms. JSCC 2011-12, Jacqueline Garcia and Jeremy Pridgen relinquished their crowns with farewell speeches, and crowned the new Mr. and Ms. JSCC.
The JSCC Scholarly Men of Success served as greeters for the evening. Entertainment included Towana Hayes, JSCC Cosmetology student and Qubanae Hudson, Associate in Arts Student; Marsha McCoy, JSCC Pre-College Advisor in the Upward Program; Meagan Shaffer, Quisan’s Dance Academy in Clinton, NC; Nicole Hodges, Duplin Early College High School student; Jamiaya Coston, JSCC Associate in Arts student, and Michale Marable of Magnolia, pianist.
Also providing entertainment was the JSCC Gospel Ensemble including Tonda Clowney, senior administrative assistant to the JSCC vice president of Student Services; JSCC students Brittany Sutton, Nicole Hodges, and Mary Bell; and Marsha McCoy.
Judges for the event were Pinda Byrd, JSCC Computer Information Technology instructor; Felita Carr, JSCC Outreach advisor in the Talent Search Program; Renita Dawson, Wayne Community College Small Business Center director; and Eddie Ford, JSCC Basic Skills Instructor. Auditors were Judy Allen, JSCC Housekeeping Supervisor/Mount Olive College accountant student; and Amber Ferrell, JSCC Counselor, Career Planning and Development. Pageant director was Colleen Newkirk, JSCC Student Government Association (SGA) advisor.
