Sampson County Parks & Recreation just finished its 2012 13-15-year-old volleyball season. There were three teams that participated. One team came from the Western District (Lakewood) and two from the Northern District (Midway). Their season consisted of Saturday “round-up” games, an occasional weekday game, and a double elimination tournament. The games were played at Roseboro-Salemburg Middle School and the old Midway Elementary School.
The Western Shockwave took the season championship title with an undefeated record. The Northern Renegades followed as season runner-up and Northern Twisters came in third place.
The season tournament was held at the old Midway Elementary School on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 9 a.m. In the first game, the Northern Renegades played the Northern Twisters. The Twisters won the game and went on to play the Western Shockwave. The Western Shockwave beat the Twisters, sending them to the loser bracket to play the Renegades. The Renegades came back with a win over the Twisters to play the Shockwave for the tournament championship. The Renegades put up a fight but lost the first set to the Shockwave. The second set was close with an ending score of 25-23, with the Renegades pulling a win over the undefeated Shockwave. The third set was taken by the Shockwave giving them the over-all win, clenching the tournament championship title and remaining undefeated in games.
SCPR staff would like to thank the coaches, officials, participants, and parents for a great first season. They hope to build up this activity and have more participating teams next year.
