Midway Middle’s boys got the cross-county win over rival Midway Monday, defeating the Wildcats 37-22.

The key to the win, said Midway coach Joshua Bullard was the Raiders’ ability to knock down shots that had not been going in previous games.

“They gave us some momentum,” Bullard stressed. “Overall, I also thought we played pretty good defense.”

It was that defense that held Hobbton Middle scoreless in the second quarter.

Hobbton held the lead at the end of the first frame, 8-5, then the young Raiders caught fire, adding 5 points of their own, while tightening up on Midway. Score at the half was 10-8.

Midway opened up their lead in the third period, with Hobbton hot on their trail, but the Raiders were able to hold off the attack and go on to get the win.

“I was pleased with the way the guys hung in there. Hobbton is a very athletic team,” Bullard said.

Leading scorers for Midway were Austin Smith with 13 points; Greg Orr, 8; Michael Kramer, 7; Reece Wilson, 4; Octavious Sankey, 3; and Dawson McLamb, 2.

Scores were not called in for the Wildcats.

Midway’s record moves to 2-3. They face Roseboro-Salemburg Thursday afternoon.
