It was a hard-fought road game that looked as if it was going to swing in favor of the Midway varsity girls, but in the end, it was not to be. The momentum went Wallace’s way in the fourth quarter and stayed there until the final buzzer, and the Lady Bulldogs got the 52-50 win.

But Raider coach Jennifer Blackmon had nothing but good things to say about her team, who jumped out to an 11-7 first quarter lead and kept the pressure on in an arena that strongly favored the home-playing Wallace team.

“We did what we were supposed to do,” Blackmon said. “It was a close and great game from start to finish. Hats off to Wallace for sticking in them. The momentum started going their way in the fourth, but my girls played their hearts out, too.”

No one played any harder than Raider Jennifer Blackmon who scored a career high 28 points during the game and pulled down 10 rebounds, had 4 assists and got 2 steals.

“She had an awesome game,” Blackmon stressed.

Led by Blackmon, the Lady Raiders took a 26-18 lead into the half.

The momentum began to shift in the third period, when Wallace began to erase their half-time deficit, pulling within 4, at 38-34, by the end of the frame.

“They are a tough team. They never gave up,” Blackmon stressed, “but neither did we. We kept fighting for the win, but, in the end, it went Wallace’s way.”

In addition to Blackmon, Kaitlyn Jackson had 7 points and 7 rebounds; Amber Poole had 4 assists and Tess Williams added 6 points.
