Sampson Middle improved its perfect record to nine wins Thursday night with a victory over Midway Middle. Final score 49-21.
It was, Sampson coach Ron Davis said, perhaps one of the best games his boys have played all season.
“They played good basketball. They shared the ball and they did the things they needed to do to get the win,” Davis said.
Midway coach Josh Bullard said his boys had a difficult time with Sampson’s pressure defense. “They have a full-court defense and we really had a hard time making anything work with it,” Bullard said. “Our guys were sometimes a little rattled, a little timid because of it.”
Sampson jumped out to an early 17-7 lead and seemed unstoppable. They had a 31-12 lead at halftime and a 40-14 lead at the end of three periods.
Midway moves to 3-6 overall and Sampson is 9-0.
Reece Wilson and Austin Smith were Midway’s leading scorers with 5 points each. Also scoring was Greg Orr with 3 points.
Sampson’s stats were not provided.
