Don Gatton and Chris Ingram from Four County Electric visited fourth grade students at Union Intermediate School on Wednesday, Feb. 6 to talk to them about electricity and safety.
Students participated in a hands-on activity that demonstrated the flow of electricity, using tennis balls representing electrons. They stood in a circle and passed the tennis balls to show the actual flow of electricity.
The fourth-graders also learned that electricity is generated in power plants that are typically fueled by coal. Representatives from Four County stressed that electricity is colorless and has no odor, so if a student should see a downed power line he should stay far away and notify an adult immediately.
To conclude the program, participants received energy saving light bulbs, compliments of the electric company.
