Midway Middle squeezed by Union in a Monday afternoon 38-32, pushing their record to 4-7 on the now waning season.

They will play their final game of the year Wednesday at Hobbton.

In Monday’s game, Union and Midway traded baskets in the opening frame, with the young Spartans ahead by 2, 8-6, after one quarter.

Midway got fired up in the second period, however, and put up 11 points to post a 17-12 lead at the half.

Their motivation continued in the third period, as the young Raiders put a little more distance between themselves and Union, and by the end of the frame they were leading 28-19.

But Union wouldn’t go away, picking up steam and pulling back to within 6, but Midway was able to hold on for the win.

“I thought we moved the ball around well yesterday,” said Midway coach Josh Bullard. “The guys knocked down a few shots, too, bot inside and outside.”

Greg Orr led scoring for Midway with 12 points; Austin Smith had 9; and Michael Kramer also had 9.

Stats for Union were not called in.
