Clinton’s Lady Dark Horses ended their regular season, and Senior Night, with a disappointing loss to the visitors from South Lenoir. Final score was 55-51. Although the Lady Dark Horses walked away with a loss, their season isn’t over yet, as the girls will turn right around and get prepared for the state 2A playoffs which begin next week.
But Friday night, they struggled more than usual with South Lenoir’s defense and by the end of the first quarter, that struggle was showing. South Lenoir led 14-4.
The Lady Horses, however, stepped it up in the second frame, adjusting to the Blue Devils and cutting into their earlier deficit. By the end of the first half, Clinton only trailed by 2, 28-26.
Jumping into the opening of the second half, the Blue Devils pounded away at the Horses, gaining more momentum and ending the third frame ahead 41-35.
But Clinton was nipping at South Lenoir’s heels, but persistent fouls made it difficult for the Lady Horses to gain the edge they needed.
The teams swapped baskets for much of the fourth quarter, but Clinton wasn’t able to catch the Devils.
Leading scorers for the Lady Horses were Courtney Pearsall with 14 points, Lexus Simpson with 11, Bianca Owens with 11, Kristen Glasper with 8, DeAsia Edwards with 4, and Tiandra Johnson with 2 points.
The Lady Dark Horses will play Tuesday at Richlands in the opening round of the conference playoffs.
