Hobbton’s girls opened their soccer season on the road against a powerful 3A Southern Wayne High School. Although the girls played well, their coach said, they lost in an 8-0 shutout.
“It was a good experience for us,” said coach Wes Cone. “It gives us some good play as we move into the season.”
Cone said he liked what he saw from his squad. “They’ve got a great attitude and, just as importantly, they have a team mentality. I’m excited about this season and what these girls will be able to do.”
The Wildcats played without three starters Friday night, a contributing factor in the score.
But Cone wasn’t focused on the loss, nor was his team. They were all more focused on the season and their intent to play as a team.
“This team has a great mindset, they are team-minded and I think that will take us a long way,” Cone said.
Hobbton will square off again against Southern Wayne Tuesday, this time in Wildcat country.
