One bad inning cost the Lady Leopards the win in their first conference match-up at Wallace-Rose Hill Thursday. The Bulldogs won, 6-3.
“Our defense had a meltdown in the 4th inning. There were a couple of back-to-back errors and we just couldn’t get back on track,” a disappointed Lakewood head coach Dave Yarasheski said after the game.
“We managed to bounce back and played much better the last two innings, but Wallace hit the ball really well,” he added.
Miranda Lane scored 2 of Lakewood’s 3 runs and was 1-2 at bat. Sabra Knowles scored the third run after getting on base on balls. Bailey Dudley went 2-4; Brooke Bowen, 2-3; Emily Lewis 1-3; Morgan Herring 1-4; Amanda Bowden, 1-4; and Anna Heinz, 1-4.
Knowles pitched 4 innings and allowed 4 runs while Bowden pitched 2 innings and allowed 2 runs.
The Leopards are 2-1 over all and 0-1 in conference play. They travel to Trask next Tuesday.
