Midway’s Raider baseball team defeated the visiting Rosewood Eagles Monday night 13-2 in a 5 inning game.
Luke Clark pitched 3 innings to claim the win for the Raiders. Clark gave up 2 hits and 2 runs while striking out 1 Eagle.
Troy Spell pitched 2 innings in relief to pick up a save. Spell struck out 3 and allowed a hit and no runs.
Providing offense for the home team included Taylor Calcutt who went 2-3 with 2 runs batted in and a stolen base. Heath Smith was 1-2 with 2 RBIs Clark went 1-3 and drove home 3 runs with a home run. Matthew Barefoot added a stolen base and an RBI. Troy Spell was 2-3.
The Raiders scored 1 run in the 2nd inning, 2 in the 3rd, 8 in the 4th, and 2 in the 5th. The Eagles scored single runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings.
“We started off slow and sloppy, but our guys came back and played well,” declared Midway head coach Jason Fussell. “Our pitchers have thrown the ball well and maybe we can get the defense to keep standing behind them.”
Midway is 3-0 overall. Their home conference game versus Wallace-Rose Hill will be played Wednesday night because of a rain delay Tuesday.
