The Lady Crusaders squeaked by Cape Fear Christian in a 9-inning cliff-hanger that finally ended when Daisha Jordan scored from 3rd on a hit by pitcher Abigail Blanchard to end the game with Harrells Christian winning 9-8.

Cape Fear Christian started the game off swinging and scored 6 runs in the first 4 innings. During that time, the Crusaders only got on base twice. When the bottom of the fourth rolled around, the tide changed directions and Blanchard came alive, scoring Jordan from 2nd for HCA’s first run of the game.

On the mound in the top of the 5th, Blanchard sat the CFC batters down in order. Harrells then went to work in the bottom of the 5th, and with 2 outs looming over them, managed to score 5more runs to tie the ballgame: Mary Grace Norris hit a triple and was brought in on a base hit by Marissa Parks; Parks, Daisha, and Regan Murphy all loaded the bases and were brought in on another triple hit this time by Blanchard.

Harrells scored twice more in the 6th, but Cape Fear came back with 2 runs of their own to knot the score at 8.

CFC never quit. They got a runner on 3rd in the top of the 8th and 9th innings, but just couldn’t bring them home. The Crusaders never got a hit until the bottom of the 9th when Jordan slammed a line drive and then stole second. Murphy advanced Jordan to third on a hit to short, but Murphy was thrown out at first.

It was a line drive by Blanchard that scored Jordan for the game winning run.

On offense, Blanchard had 5 RBIs, went 3-5 at bat and scored once. On defense, she faced 39 batters; threw 159 pitches; 111 strikes, and 48 balls; had 10 strikeouts, allowed 12 hits, and no walks.

Mary Grace Norris went 3-5 and scored twice; Daisha went 3-4 with 1 BB, 1 RBI, and scored 3 times; Marissa Parks went 1-5, 1 RBI, and 1 run; Regan Murphy, 2-4, 1 run; Crisafulli, 2-4; Cory Levings, 1 BB, 1 run.

The Lady Crusaders will host Wake Christian on Friday.
