It was a hard-fought game between Midway and Union middle schools Thursday afternoon, as the girls’ teams squared off at Union, but a 4th inning blitz by the young Raider girls gave them the 15-6 win.
The game was a close one until the top of the 4th. Midway led 3-1, then, in the bottom of that inning, after a pitching change, the Raider girls poured on 4 runs and never looked back.
Union scored 3 more in the bottom of the 7th, determined not to go away, but it was not to be, as the Raiders came away with the win.
For Union, Hope Cottle had 1 hit, 3 runs; Brenna King, Tanaziah Chestnutt, Sarah Williams, and Jasmine Brown, 2 hits each; and Alison Alphin, 3 hits, 1 run
On the hill for Union was Brenna King, who got 5 strikeouts, and Hope Cottle, who also struck out 5.
