Midway Middle’s boys baseball team is on a roll, winning five consecutive games and holding onto a perfect season record. They notched their fifth win Monday afternoon, defeating Harrells Christian Academy 13-3.

The young Raiders stormed onto the field, taking command from the start. After holding HCA scoreless in the top of the 1st, the Midway boys turned on the bats, earning 4 runs to go ahead 4-0 after 1.

Midway powered in 2 more runs in the bottom of the 2nd while continuing to play aggressive defense that held the young Crusaders at bay. After 2 innings, Midway was up 6-0.

Harrells put bat to ball in the 3rd inning, scoring all 3 of their runs. But Midway wouldn’t be denied either, as the young Raiders added 4 more to their score to put them up 10-3 at the end of the 3rd.

Midway their final 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th and Harrells couldn’t bring another running in during their at-bat in the 5th, and the game was called based on the 10-run rule.

Adam Butler was on the hill for 2 2/3 innings for Midway, striking out 4 and allowing only 3 hits. Austin Raynor pitched the final 2 1/2 innings and got the win, striking out 2 and allowing 1 hit.

Leading hitters for Midway were Raynor, who went 1-2 with 4 runs and 2 walks; Jake Clark, 1-2, with 2 runs and 1 walk; Butler, 1-2, with 1 run and 2 walks; Griffin Williams, 1-3; and Dylan Fann, 1-3.

For Harrells, S. Hall was 1-2 with 1 run; B. Clark, 2-3; and L. Sutton, 1-2.

The win moves Midway’s record to 5-0 on the season. They face a tough Sampson Middle team in Clinton Thursday.

Coach Steven Tyler said his Midway team was playing solid baseball right now.

“We are hitting the ball better, and overall I think we are playing really good ball. We’ve had some out sick, but others have stepped in and worked hard for us. They’ve been strong on the field and they are working hard at practice. I hope we can keep this momentum going.”

Tyler said the Raiders will come up against a powerful team in Sampson Thursday.

“I hope we’ve got everybody back and well again, and we will work hard to be ready for Sampson. It will be a tough game, but I think the guys are up for it,” Tyler acknowledged.
