Despite a sluggish start, Midway’s Lady Raiders got their second conference win of the young soccer season, a road victory over Pender. Final score was 3-1.

“We weren’t really crisp at all in the first half,” said head coach Trey Apperson. “But the second half we seemed to get things together more. We stepped it up, moving the ball around much better and creating opportunities to get goals.”

Midway’s first goal came three minutes into the game off the foot of Hannah Hairr off an assist by Avery Apperson.

At the half, the score was knotted at 1 each.

Then the Raider girls found their footing and began to create plays. “They were passing better and making the most of our possessions. We opened up some opportunities, even though we weren’t success each time,” Apperson said.

At the 60-minute mark, the Raiders scored again, this time a goal by Conner Willis from an assist by Regan Warren.

Warren then hit the back of the net in the 75th minute off an assist by Kimberly O’Brien to give Midway its third goal of the game.

The win moves the Raider record to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

They return home Friday for another conference battle with James Kenan.
