The Just-A-Mere Garden Club held its monthly meeting at Shady Grove Church Fellowship Hall on March 7 at 6:30 p.m. Wilma Jean Wise hosted the regular meeting assisted by her sister, Sheila Oglesby. There were 14 members present.

Tables in the fellowship hall were draped with colorful covers and toppers and an arrangement of yellow roses and carnations in assorted colors were placed on the different tables.

Devotional thoughts on spring cleaning our hearts and minds were shared by Catherine Gilmore.

The program on “The Language of Flowers” was also presented by Mrs. Gilmore. She spoke on the meaning of flowers, the significance of their colors, and the symbolism in the arrangement of of the flowers. Much of this dates back to the Victorian times. A drawing for the book, Language of Flowers, was won by Jane West.

Business items included finalizing plans for the Arbor Day observance and registering for the annual state meeting at Greensboro. The Nominating Committee’s recomendation of new officers were approved for the next club year. Further discussion on The Garden Tea Party was held and a handout outlined the event.

The hostess gift was won by Dorothy Warren, who received a gift certificate to a local garden center.

Refreshments were served as members arrived. Guests enjoyed a fresh fruit salad, chicken salad sandwiches, chips and salsa, among other pick-ups, and a choice of soft drinks.
