UMO to host jazz musicians

MOUNT OLIVE — Inga Swearingen, a California-based jazz vocalist, will hold a concert at the University of Mount Olive on Thursday, Sept. 7. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Hazel Waters Kornegay Assembly Hall, 207 Wooten St. in Mount Olive.

Swearingen specializes in jazz scatting and developing vocal arrangements of folk songs. She has also appeared on the radio program Prairie Home Companion. For this concert, Swearingen will be accompanied by well-known jazz pianist Bill Peterson. Peterson is a member of the jazz faculty at Florida State University, and frequently performs with world-renowned jazz musicians.
