Greetings to all! What nice beautiful weather with plenty of rain. The rain reminds me of a story my Aunt Sarah Wynn used to tell us about a slave. He worked so hard, it started to rain. He looked up and said, “More rain, more rest.” The boss said, “What did you say?’ He replied, “More rain, more grass,” we always thought it was a cute story. So now if we look at our gardens, we can hardly see the plants for all the grass and weeds. Somebody has a lot of work to do. The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh, blessed it be the name of the Lord. Let’s all get busy! Time waits for no man.

Special shout out to Sabina Gamas and Charles Powell for being involved in the 2018 Senior Games. They both qualified for State Finals this fall. Sabina won four first place trophies and one second place for the football throw. Sabina is 91 years old and very active! What a lady! So you see, you can “Engage at Any Age”. That’s our theme for Older American’s Month 2018.
It’s with great pleasure that we congratulate our seniors for their completion of a six week class with the Deep Program. Diabetes class with Sammy Bailey, an N.C. Diabetes Education Specialist. If there are any churches or groups that would be interested in this program, please feel free to contact Sammy Bailey at 919-745-4715 or call 1-864-380-2707. This is a great program that I truly believe in.
Again, special thanks to all that made our Older American’s Month a success. It couldn’t happen without all of you. You know who you are. Thanks a million!
Remember to stop and smell the roses, laugh, live and love! My pastor preached a message on Sunday that stuck with me- “They say, he say, you say — It’s not important what they say. How do you view yourself?” Great question.
Communication, Good Customer Service — Working together is what I strive for from day to day. Have a blessed week- Look to the hills where your help cometh from. My help comes from the Lord.
Marie Faircloth is the director for the Garland Senior Center.
