Greetings! Be reminded to please take care in this hot weather. Drink plenty of water — cool water. Wet cool clothes to place on the back of your neck and the bends of your arms. Using cool, wet clothes on our pressure points works very well to help keep us cool in these hot temps. Stay inside during the hottest parts of the day and try your best to stay cool. Ask someone to take care of animals so they don’t get overheated. Take care of your neighbors by checking on them.
Here at the Department of Aging, we have Operation Fan Relief. If you are 60 plus and didn’t get a fan last year, just ask for one. We do not want anyone to suffer in this hot weather. Remember to stay hydrated, stay inside and check on your neighbors. To learn more about Operation Fan Relief, please call 910-592-4653 or 910-529-3931.
The Medicare seminar was a success. We had a good audience and the information shared was very helpful. Tarheel Footcare will be coming to the Garland Senior center on Monday, June 25, at 10:30 a.m. Fun Day will be on July 17 and will be provided by United Health Care. There will be a senior trip to Wilmington on July 24, 2018.
The Garland Senior Center is a good place to be in this hot weather. Keep plenty to drink and have good fellowship. There’s TV to watch and good educational programs here at the Garland Senior Center. Come out and enjoy our cool building filled with friends and fun.
Today was a great day as one of our volunteers did a great program about music and memory. Due to the high temperatures I’d like to encourage you all in closing to stay cool and reach out for help if you need it. Again, Operation Fan Relief is set in place to help us all beat the heat and stay cool in all this heat. Live life, love unconditionally and laugh often.
Marie Faircloth is the director of the Garland Senior Center.
