MOUNT OLIVE — The University of Mount Olive will hold a concert featuring the renowned Terry Correia’s Piano Performance Team on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Hazel Waters Kornegay Assembly Hall, 207 Wooten St.

Correia is a gifted piano pedagogue from Durham, and is known for the outstanding high school talent she develops in her own teaching studio. They are a unique group of 3 to 5 piano students who are selected by audition each year and are known as the Piano Performance Team. They have performed several times for the UMO music faculty and students, and last year appeared in a master’s class with UMO Professor of Music Dr. Alan Armstrong as adjudicator.

This concert will feature Andrew Qin and Jennifer Xu. These talented students will perform in a technically challenging repertoire that is sure to please and wow the audience.

Qin is a sophomore at is a sophomore at East Chapel Hill High School. In addition to his music studies he enjoys math, Latin, and science. He took first place in Science Olympiad events in 2013 and 2014. A regular competitor in math competitions, he is listed on the National Distinguished Honor Roll for math. During the summers he has attends music camps at UNCG, Charleston Southern University, and the Solo Piano Camp at Rider University.

Xu is the team captain of Correia’s studio. A senior at East Chapel Hill High School, this championship swimmer is an honors student and was the first place winner in the 2012 College of the Albemarle Piano Contest. She also received a scholarship to attend Interlochen in 2013.
