A Jacksonville man found himself in the Sampson County Detention Center late last week after a domestic dispute on I-40 landed him there on a laundry list of charges, including sexual exploitation of a minor.
Adam James Chenoweth, 27, of 203 Morton St., Apt. 5, Jacksonville, remained behind bars Monday afternoon under a $125,000 bond, charged with seven offenses, including possession of cocaine, assault on a government official, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, two counts of third-degree sex exploitation of a minor, simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to Sheriff’s Capt. Marcus Smith, Sampson law enforcement got involved with the incident after responding to domestic dispute call occurring between a man and woman along I-40 in Sampson County Thursday.
Upon arrival, Smith said, officers encountered an “irate female,” who told them she had been assaulted by the man, later identified as Chenoweth.
Smith said officers discovered the dispute was over pornographic images the woman had reportedly located on the man’s cell phone.
During the investigation, the sheriff’s captain noted that Chenowith became irate and assaulted one of the officers on the scene as the deputy was attempting to take him into custody.
Further investigation showed deputies located images involving minors on Chenowith’s cell phone, leading to his arrest.
There were no further details available as of press time.
