A suspect was still at large and Sampson County Sheriff’s Office investigators were still finalizing charges Friday afternoon at about 5 p.m. after a tip led to the discovery of a marijuana operation on Concord School Road in Clinton.

According to Captain Marcus Smith, the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Division responded to a drug complaint at 1996 Concord School Road, Clinton, on Friday, Oct. 17. “Upon arrival, investigators knocked on the door but received no response,” Smith stated. “While on scene, investigators detected a strong odor of marijuana and observed several marijuana plants in plain view outside the residence.”

After a search warrant was obtained, investigators discovered four marijuana plants outside the home. They also found a marijuana grow operation inside a shed behind the residence. Inside the home, a child’s room was also being used to “dry out” large amounts of marijuana. The Sampson County Department of Social Services was subsequently notified, Smith said.

The suspect, Homer Daniel Faircloth, 40, of the residence was not at home during the execution of the search warrant. Faircloth had not been arrested as of about 5 p.m., and the investigation remains active, Smith said. “He will definitely be charged,” Smith told The Sampson Independent.

Sheriff Jimmy Thornton stated, “I am proud of our team of drug investigators for their professionalism and persistence in keeping illegal drugs out of our communities.”
