From the placing of the steeple high atop First Baptist Church, 408 College St., in October 1965 to today as it towers high above the city, the 170-year-old church’s rich history has always been closely linked with the county seat of Clinton. Tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 19, the church family of First Baptist will celebrate that history, welcoming to the pulpit the Rev. Justin Jones, son of former long-time First Baptist pastor the Rev. William M. Jones. The celebration will include lunch following the worship service, which will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. Church members are urging the community to come out, bring family, friends and neighbors as they ‘honor the past and embrace the future.’ See coverage of Sunday’s event’s in next week’s edition of The Sampson Independent and online at clintonnc.com.
