As the days of October seem to pass us by at a rapid speed, it appears as though we are getting closer to the main event of the month: Halloween. Soon, the streets of Sampson County will be lined with decorated cars for Trunk or Treats, kids will be dressed up as their favorite superhero or maybe their favorite monster from a beloved horror movie. Regardless of how it is celebrated, Halloween is something special that only happens once a year. As such, Sampson County is ready to celebrate with a wide variety of events happening county-wide.
Halloween on the Square
Perhaps the biggest and most anticipated Halloween event in Sampson County is the annual Halloween on the Square event happening on Halloween night in downtown Clinton. The event starts at 5:30 pm on Friday, Oct. 31. As of now the event is scheduled to feature a pumpkin carving contest, trunk or treating, a ghost hunt, live music provided by a DJ from North Carolina as part of the Music on Main concert series and the return of the beloved costume contest. The costume contest is in partnership with the Clinton Parks and Recreation program and has often been a staple for the event. Also featured will be inflatables and games for kids and families to participate in.
“Halloween on the Square is just a fun time for kids to come downtown and enjoy themselves,” said Clinton City Planning Director Tyler Wise.
Wise’s thoughts were echoed by Clinton Councilman Neil Strickland at the Sept. 2 city council meeting when plans to close off the downtown streets were approved.
“For anyone that has not been to it, it is something great to see all the young goblins running around downtown,” said Strickland. “You’d be amazed at how many young children and adults are downtown that day.”
The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and goes to 7:30 p.m. on Halloween night in downtown Clinton.
Fantastic Sam’s Trick or Treat
On Oct. 31, the Sampson Crossing Shopping Center on 1301 Sunset Ave. in Clinton will be hosting a community Trick or Treat event sponsored by Fantastic Sam’s.
