All 100 tickets for the highly anticipated Dinner on Main event sold out in less than 15 minutes on Monday morning.
Organizers for the event, including Bill Scott and Debbie Roberts, City Manager J.P. Morgan, Main Street manager Tyler Wise and marketing specialist Meredith Horne had planned to meet up at Ribeye’s Steakhouse to hold a watch party as ticket sales rolled in. However, all tickets were purchased sooner than the organizers had expected, and were long gone by the time they arrived at the restaurant.
“I’m in shock,” said Roberts. “We were hoping to sit here and watch the numbers roll in as we were talking — not that we’re complaining.”
“I think it tells you how much people are craving this in the community,” added Horne.
The Dinner on Main event was introduced at this month’s Clinton City Council and Sampson County Board of Commissioners meetings by Scott and Roberts. According to the pair, the event is the first of its kind in recent memory. Set for Sunday, May 31, from 5:30-8 p.m., Dinner on Main will feature a unique dining experience for participants, with locally sourced food served right on Clinton’s Main Street, adjacent to the Sampson County Courthouse.
To help put the event together, several chefs from restaurants in the Sampson County area have been enlisted to prepare the meal. Look for profiles on each of the selected chefs throughout the month of April.
At 5:30 p.m. on May 31, guests should arrive at Artworks for sangria before the main event. Then, the “social hour,” as it is called, will continue into ArtWay. Eventually, guests will make their way to the Milling Around art piece in the downtown area, before taking their seats in the courthouse area. There, guests will be greeted with tables and white tablecloths, china, goblets and a slurry of eye-pleasing decorations.
