A mystery is lurking in the Sampson Community Theatre, and it’s up to the audience to find it.
Starting in three weeks, Director Angela Martin will lead the production of “Clue,” based off the mystery board game. The show dates are: Friday, May 15, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, May 16, at 7 p.m.; Sunday, May 17, at 2 p.m.; Thursday, May 21, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, May 23, at 7 p.m.; with the final show on Sunday, May 24, at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door of the Sampson Community Theatre.
“’Clue’ is all about being fast-paced and high energy, just like the board game as well as the movie that came out [in 1985], it’s just gonna be a lot of fun,” Martin said. “The cast is all adults. We have fantastic shows for children as well as older people. But this cast is specifically designed with an adult cast in mind. It’s super funny, exciting and I just hope that the audience loves it as much as I’ve enjoyed directing it.”
In “Clue,” there are several characters within the production that the audience is tasked with figuring out who committed a murder, with what weapon and what room it occurred in. Martin went into detail on her decision to work with an all-adult cast this time around for the production.
“The great thing about community theatre is we provide an outlet for many, many types of productions,” Martin explained. “Whether it’s children shows, family shows or adult shows, we love to be able to give our adults in our area the opportunity to perform, just like I do for my teenagers or our young people. You can do the shows with high school kids or with younger ones. But for me, I think this just gives our adults in our community the opportunity to be showcased and highlighted as well.”
Martin revealed some of the parts she’s looking most forward to the community experiencing. “It’s just a great and funny comedy, it has a lot of comedic timing involved with it,” she said. “I just can’t wait to see the audience reactions to all the different things that happen in the play.”
“Clue” is the second production in the theatre’s season year, with the first being “Frozen” this past February. The season begins in January and ends in December. Following this production will be “Lost on the 4th of July,” directed by Tom Wilbur. That production is slated to premiere on Friday, June 19.
“If the community is looking for a fun night filled with comedy, filled with lots of physical comedy as well as witty sense of humor,” Martin emphasized. “A night of figuring out who done it, you love the board game, you love the movie, you’ll just love seeing the show. Hopefully we’ll have a big crowd, and we make everyone laugh and just have a grand and great time there at the theatre.”
