Clinton recommended budget features no tax increase

The city of Clinton has submitted a recommended budget for approval from the City Council that features no change to the ad valorem tax rate of .34 cents and maintains all the city’s services.

The ad valorem tax rate is based on the assessed value of real or personal property, translating from Latin to “according to value”. Commonly applied to real estate, vehicles, and business assets, these taxes are a primary revenue source for local governments to fund public services.

The recommended budget was presented to the council at their meeting Tuesday night. This budget has not been approved by the council, but has been submitted for them to look over, before they decide whether or not to approve it. The council currently has a second budget workshop, where comments on the budget can be made and addressed, scheduled for Tuesday, May 12 at 5:00 p.m..
