Sampson County Schools is preparing to launch its summer feeding program to help provide students with a week’s worth of meals.
The program is set to run June 4 through July 30. During this time, parents or guardians may pick up seven days’ worth of breakfast and lunch meals for any student under the age of 18.
Nearly every Thursday during the program will act as a pickup day. The only exception will be the week of July 4.
“Meal pickups will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.,” said Nutrition Director Melissa Smith about the Thursday pickups. “We will have one school in each district that is providing meal pickup. They are Hobbton High School, Midway Elementary School, Roseboro-Salemburg Middle School and Union Middle School.”
According to Smith, the program was created to provide a stable food source for students while school is not in session.
“We are excited to offer this program to help ensure our students continue to have access to nutritious meals while school is out for the summer. To register, parents or guardians may contact the School Nutrition Office at 910-592-4111, Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 5 pm. Registration is also available through the QR code provided on our flyer and website,” said Smith.
To receive meals, parents must call the school nutrition office by Wednesday at noon on the week of pickups. The school nutrition office’s summer hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m..
