Recent graduates of Sampson County Schools earned more than $22.6 million in scholarships for the 2015-16 school year.
According to a news release from the district, the Class of 2016 groups from each school earned substantially more than the previous class which earned $15.2 million for academic and character achievements.
Superintendent Dr. Eric Bracy congratulated the graduates, families, teachers and counselors for supporting the seniors throughout their careers.
“This is a fine group of young men and women who will achieve extraordinary success in college and careers,” Bracy said.
Midway High School led the way with more than $8 million. Hobbton High School followed with 4.42 million. Union High School students earned $4.30 million and next was Lakewood High School with $4.11 million. Sampson Early College High School graduates collected more than $1.78 million.
Many graduates of Sampson County School will attend community colleges and four-year institutions in August.
“Our entire community can be proud of the fact that colleges, groups, and other organizations bestowed funds upon our seniors that will help them pay for college and all that it requires,” Bracy said. “I am especially grateful to the school counselors who are so committed to helping students apply for and gain college funds.”
