The town of Salemburg was awarded for being the 31st town to shift from using Black Mountain Software as part of the Municipal Accounting Services Program. The award was presented during Thursday night’s board meeting.

“The NC League of Municipalities (NCLM) is trying to get small towns converted to the same software larger towns use,” shared Salemburg Town Clerk Teresa Smith after Thursday’s meeting — “because it’s helpful for audits and other things like that.”

“Auditors weren’t wanting to come into small towns using older software that works so differently,” the clerk continued, sharing that the league was working to resolve that.

“And they paid for it all,” Smith gushed excitedly, stressing how thankful she was for how helpful they had been in walking her through the process.

Smith named Anna Etheridge, accounting specialist with NCLM, as being the reason she could get through the process, acknowledging that learning a new software had its challenges, but Etheridge helped her every step of the way, she stressed.

The clerk described how this could not have been possible without the league, and she shared her gratitude for the opportunities this will provide the town moving forward.

“They are paying $94,000 for us. We’re a small town with two employees. We couldn’t have done this without them,” Smith stressed.

This new software will affect payroll, utility billing, and other town business and will allow Salemburg more opportunities to remain current with other municipalities.
