A traffic stop in Sampson County led to the arrest of two Clinton men and the seizure of approximately 30 pounds of marijuana and $4,000 in cash.
According to Sampson County Sheriff’s officials, Timothy Jaquan Joyner, of 107 Tyndall Court, Clinton, and Daryl Dewayne Wilson, of 85 Hyatt Haven Lane, Clinton, were arrested Sept. 22 following an investigation by Criminal Interdiction Division officers.
Joyner was charged with two counts of trafficking marijuana and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substances; Wilson was charged with two counts of trafficking marijuana.
Deputies were conducting patrols when they spotted a 2012 Audi with dark-tinted windows. Before deputies could get behind the vehicle, it pulled into a residence and parked, Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Marcus Smith noted.
Deputies continued watching the vehicle and reported observing what they considered suspicious activity. After the Audi left the residence, officers conducted a traffic stop.
It was during the stop, Smith said, that investigators observed signs of possible criminal activity and developed probable cause to search the vehicle. Deputies reported finding cash along with marijuana residue inside.
The investigation then shifted back to the residence where deputies had initially seen the Audi.
Authorities said deputies returned to the location and found three boxes that had allegedly been discarded from the vehicle. Inside the boxes, investigators discovered approximately 30 pounds of marijuana.
Smith said approximately $4,000 in cash was seized during the investigation. The marijuana was estimated to have a street value of approximately $30,000.
Joyner and Wilson were both placed in the Sampson County Detention Center under separate $75,000 secured bonds.
