Clinton Police are seeking information that will lead them to the person or persons responsible for a Friday night shooting that left a 27-year-old Newton Grove man dead.

When contacted Saturday morning, Police chief Jay Tilley confirmed that officers had responded to a shooting around 11 p.m. Friday night, June 19, in the area of Dogwood Circle, where they found the body of Eric Tyrique Teachey, of Newton Grove, between two apartments at the Dogwood complex.

Teachey, the police chief noted, was the victim of a gunshot wound.

“An investigation is under way,” Tilley noted, “and we are asking anyone with information about this crime to contact investigators.”

Officers with the city’s Neighborhood Improvement Team and the State Bureau of Investigation have initiated a homicide probe, he said, and Teachey’s body has been turned over to the Sampson County Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 910-592-3105 or the CPD TIP line at 910-590-3009. Citizens may also provide information by the Police Department’s anonymous two-way texting service. This can be done by simply texting any information about the crime to 847411 beginning with the code word tipcpd followed by the message.
