County finance employee Juanita Brewington has earned the designation as a Certified Local Government Purchasing Officer, earned after completing four core courses at the UNC School of Government and passing a three-part certification examination that ensures the applicants have a comprehensive knowledge of purchasing law, procedures and best practices. The certification was formally presented to her earlier this week at the Sampson County Board of Commissioners meeting.

Sampson County employee Richard Carr successfully completed the UNC School of Government Municipal and County Administration Course. The coursework – completed in 4-day sessions during a seven-month period – provides instruction in the legal framework of county and municipal government and provides in-depth knowledge of all the departments and services provided by local government. The course is reserved for local government officials whose responsibilities require an understanding of functions beyond areas of individual specialization.
