On June 29, the Harrells Christian Academy Beta Club boarded a bus and headed to Nashville, Tenn., for the 35th annual Senior National Beta Convention. This year’s theme was “Betas, Rockin’ the Country,” and HCA arrived with their 1st place skit, 1st place banner and 3rd place Division I Spelling competitor from the N.C. State Convention with the intention of making an impression.

The students began their Tuesday morning competitions by entering their banner into the field with twenty-five other banners and by performing their character skit with 26 other schools from around the nation. Two groups of students also participated in on-site competitions: Convention Invention and Reimagine, Recreate, Recycle. This year’s general sessions offered captivating speakers and a full slate of amazing talent as clubs competed for top billing in special and group talent.

Before heading back to North Carolina on Thursday morning, students gathered for the closing ceremony and awards. HCA students walked away with three national awards: 4th place in Reimagine, Recreate, Recycle; 4th place in banner; and 1st place in character skit, which was written by Kylie Jones and performed by Joseph Lee, Margaret Clark, Brayden Sutton, Will Huff, Kylie Jones, Natalie Hardin, Harley Crumpler, Caroline Jones, Catherine Armstrong and Syndey Norris.

“I could not be more proud of our students and how well they performed,” Beta sponsor Ruthann Parker commented. “Coming home with three national awards is an incredible feeling and gives me a tremendous amount of excitement for next year.”
