A local church is looking forward to seeing Newkirk Park filled with community members having fun and sharing their love of Jesus.

Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Ministries is hosting its “Outreach in the Park” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at James L. Newkirk Memorial Park. The church is under the leadership of Bishop V.N. Fullwood Sr., senior pastor, and co-pastor Idella M. Fullwood.

The upcoming celebration is the church’s first time hosting the event.

“We’re hoping to do it annually, as much as possible,” said church member and organizer Stacee Carr said.

Carr said everyone in the community is invited to attend, regardless of their background, denomination or race.

“We just wanted to show some love to the community because of all the hate going on in the world today,” Carr said about being positive. “We’re called to be that light to the world.”

Carr expressed how the Lord gave her the vision to assist with the event, with a purpose of people experiencing enjoyment.

“People need to have a good time, enjoy life and have experiences with each other,” she said about people coming together and having fun. “We just want to serve the people.”

In addition to the church’s goals of people having a good time with each other, some of the scheduled attractions will include games, face-painting for kids and singing from local groups. The event will also host health screenings to check blood pressure, blood glucose levels and to distribute information about overall health.

“It should be a nice day,” Carr said. “We just want them to come out and enjoy the community and the love of Jesus.”

Free lunch will be provided at noon. Throughout the day, carnival foods such as nachos, cotton candy, snow cones and funnel cakes will be available during the event.
