A Clinton man has been charged in a felony assault in which he allegedly sliced his girlfriend with a machete during an argument, Sampson County Sheriff’s authorities said.

Dennis Franklin Naylor, 46, of 1021 The Avenue, Clinton, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, a felony offense. Naylor was arrested at the Sampson County Law Enforcement Center on Thursday, the same day the warrant was issued.

No bond was set. Naylor’s court date was set for Sept. 8.

The incident reportedly occurred just minutes after 11 p.m. Wednesday inside Naylor’s The Avenue residence. Reports state that the victim Lisa Ann Raynor, 39, of Roseboro, suffered severe lacerations as a result. Sheriff’s Lt. Marcus Smith noted that Raynor was Naylor’s girlfriend.

“(The) victim and suspect got into a verbal altercation that went physical,” Smith stated. “During the altercation, the suspect assaulted the victim with a machete, causing lacerations on the victim’s body. She was transported and treated for her injuries and the suspect was arrested and charged.”
