A Clinton man has received felony charges in connection with a Sampson County Sheriff’s investigation launched after a complaint of alleged rape and sex offenses was reported to Department of Social Services officials.
According to Sheriff’s Lt. Marcus Smith, sheriff’s investigators received a complaint in June from DSS officials in regards to possible sexual misconduct in which a minor female child was the victim.
“Investigators looked into the allegations and determined sufficient evidence existed to obtain warrants on the suspect,” Smith stated. “As a result the suspect was arrested and charged.”
Details surrounding the investigation were not released due to the sensitive nature of the case and the fact that it involved a minor victim. Neither the age of the victim nor the date of the alleged offenses was immediately available from sheriff’s officials.
That suspect, Benny Ray Robinson, 52, of 56 Roosevelt Road, Clinton, was charged with first degree rape of a child and first degree sex offense, both felonies. Robinson was arrested on Friday at the Sampson County Law Enforcement Center and placed in the Sampson County Jail under $100,000 secured bond, according to reports released Monday.
He has an initial court date of Sept. 22. A mugshot was not immediately available from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office.
