The staff of The Sampson Independent is inviting readers to scour Sampson County as part of the newspaper’s revived Easter egg hunt, which begins Tuesday, March 13.
For the lucky person who can find the treasured egg, there will be a $300 prize. The hunt is simple, Sampson Independent media director Shannon Best said.
“A clue will be printed in The Sampson Independent each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, beginning March 13,” Best explained. “Each clue will be printed in the paper only once.”
According to Best, a total of nine clues will be given, and just in case you missed a clue, all previous clues can be found at the official sponsor locations. Clues are posted at the designated official sponsor location 24 hours before each publication.
All of the sponsors will receive the clue by noon the day before the clue is in the paper. The 2018 Easter sponsors are Clinton Drug, Dairy Queen, Smith Tire, Elizabeth’s Garden & Gifts, Clinton Appliance, Sessoms Jewelry, James Trading Co., Ann’s Sew ‘N’ Vac, Famous Discounts, Southeastern Foundation and Crawl Space Repair, Simply NC, & Thee Christian Bookstore.
This contest isn’t new to the newspaper. More than a decade ago, The Sampson Independent had a similar contest, and according to Best, staff wanted to bring that kind of excitement back into the community. The paper brought back the contest last year to positive reviews.
“We want businesses to have a chance to be active participants,” Best said. “This contest gives us a unique way to help the advertisers, who we appreciate for supporting contests like the Easter Egg Hunt.”
For anyone who discovers the egg, and hopefully someone will, the egg and enclosed contents should be brought to the newspaper’s office at 109 W. Main St., between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. If you are lucky enough to find the egg, you must know the last clue that was published in order to win.
The egg’s hidden location is within the boundaries of Sampson County and located on public property in an easily accessible hiding place. So, Best says, there should be no fear in taking on the challenge of the hunt.
