ROSEBORO — A male suspect reportedly attempted to rob the Dollar General on N.C. 24 at gunpoint Monday night, but was thwarted when the clerk could not open the register, fleeing from the store moments later, according to Sampson County Sheriff’s officials.
The investigation into the attempted robbery is ongoing.
Officers responded to the Dollar General in reference to the armed robbery. According to reports, the incident happened just before 9 p.m. Monday at the store, located on East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (N.C. 24) within the town limits.
Upon arrival, deputies met with an employee who stated an unknown black male entered the store brandishing a firearm and demanded money from the register. The employee was unable to open the cash register to retrieve the money and the suspect fled out of the business on foot with nothing.
The suspect was described only as a black male. He was reportedly wearing a black hoodie, black pants and a blue undershirt at the time of the attempted robbery.
