Meth charges leveled after stop

A Clinton man is facing felony methamphetamine charges following a traffic stop in the northern end of Sampson County.

On Friday, agents with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Special Investigations Division conducted a traffic stop on a 2017 Ford Fiesta traveling on Jada Allen Road, Dunn. During the stop, they established probable cause to search the vehicle and found 0.1 grams of meth inside the vehicle.

Kelly Brent Strickland, 39, of 1735 Old Stage Road, Erwin, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of marijuana less than half an ounce and possession of drug paraphernalia.

His bond was set at $37,000 secured.

In a different incident the same day, Clinton Police officers took a man into custody following a short foot chase. There was 48 grams of marijuana seized during his arrest, according to reports.

Drexter Solomon Rich, 32, of 1337 Faison Hwy., Clinton, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance, resisting arrest/hinder and delay and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Rich was arrested on West Boney Street. He was transported by emergency medical personnel to Sampson Regional Medical Center due to trouble breathing after attempting to run from law enforcement, reports state. He was then transported to the police station and on to the Detention Center.

His bond was set at $8,000 secured.
