The Big Blue Store has faithfully served Sampson County for the last four decades and this weekend will celebrate its dedicated and loyal customers.
Opened in 1978 under the leadership of Del Pollert, the Big Blue Store expanded to Clinton from Indiana. Today, that store sits in its original location on the corner of Lisbon Street and MLK Jr. Boulevard. There are three locations now, all owned by Pollert. In addition to the Clinton store, there are stores in Elizabethtown and Kinston.
Tim Clifton serves as general manager of the three locations and Terry Johnson is manager of the Clinton location.
“The original Clinton location has been enlarged and expanded several times, and currently houses our flagship store, warehouse and corporate offices,” Clifton said.
Otherwise, service and quality are the same.
The Big Blue Store, Clifton explained, opened with a mission. That mission included putting customers first and providing those customers with all of their home and farming needs.
“Our mission has always been to be the best farm and home store destination, while providing superior customer service and a positive shopping experience with every customer interaction,” Clifton said.
From the outside, it appears one can find all of their farming and gardening needs. But once you enter the front door, customers can find anything from household plumbing supplies to the latest fashion trends for those who are a little country at heart.
“We’re unique in that we offer anything from clothing, home decor items, power equipment, hand tools, pet supplies, auto and marine parts, farm supplies, feed — just about anything for farm, ranch and home,” Clifton explained. “We strive to give good service with every customer interaction.”
Both the commercial farmer, as well as the hobby farmer, can find everything they need to get the job done. In addition to offering products for the home, Clifton said the store also has a full service repair and parts department.
Customer satisfaction isn’t the only priority on the list. The Big Blue Store also believes in taking care of their employees.
Company wide there are 84 employees, with 40 of those working at the local store. When the store opened in 1978 Claudie Morrisey was instrumental in setting the store and getting it opened. Morrisey continues to work for the Clinton location on a full-time basis.
Clifton said the company has spent the last 40 years satisfying its customers and giving them the best customer service — and there are no plans to change in the future.
“The goals for the future of the company are to continue to give good customer service, offer a wide range of products at a fair price and give back to the communities we’re located in,” Clifton said.
The Big Blue Store will hold its 40th anniversary celebration this Friday, June 8, through Sunday, June 10. During the three-day celebration, there will be special sales offered, along with the chance to win door prizes Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A light lunch will be served Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
