The stage of the Sampson Community Theater is somewhat crowded these days what with the many folks helping with set building and painting which include Dan Holland, Lila Maxwell, Krystin Turlington, Kara Turlington, Kayla Byrd, Charlie Knowles, Lizzie Knowles and Logan Best. Anne Wicke is busy painting backdrops and side panels. When the large cast starts a rehearsal they may do so while other folks are working on the set and the stage sighs with the load it is carrying but it is a happy sigh to feel so many dedicated to pleasing our audiences.

Some of the characters in “Hairspray” are ‘Seaweed’ being portrayed by Shondarius Randolph. He is a rising senior at Clinton High School where he has been in stage productions but this is his first time treading our boards.

Logan Tart is reprising her role as ‘Tracy Turnblad’ and she has recently become engaged to her longtime boy friend Gregory Beddingfield. He reportedly popped the question to her on the steps of the Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World causing excitement among their friends.

Get your tickets for “Hairspray”early at Matthew’s Gifts or at Inkspot. The box office will be open for one hour before each performance so come early and get the seat you want. Performance Dodge/Ford are the sponsors and we thank them for being so civic minded.

Good news — The board has elected to make “Annie, Jr” a patron event which means that if you have a Patron Support ticket, you will be able to see the show free as part of your ticket. However there will only be three shows — two on July 21 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. and one show on July 22 at 2:30 p.m.
