A Clinton man has been charged in connection with a shooting in the early-morning hours of June 17. that injured three people at a Faison-area residence. The shooting is still under investigation.

As a result of the investigation thus far, Jack Figueroa Rivera, 25, of 181 Ruby Lane, Clinton, was arrested and charged by Sampson County Sheriff’s investigators with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm to entice fear, possession of a firearm by felon and misdemeanor probation violation.

He was placed in the Sampson County Detention Center under $220,000 secured bond.

According to previous reports, at 12:35 a.m. Sunday, June 17, officers responded to a call of shots fired at 214 Scarlet Lane. Upon arrival, they discovered three gunshot victims, listed in reports as Decorius Daughtry, 25, of Nicole Lane, Clinton; Kenjuan Morrisey, 21, of Royal Lane, Clinton; and Ruben Rodriguez, 23, of Conifer Road, Raleigh.

Two of the shooting victims were treated the night of the incident and released. The third shooting victim had to be airlifted to a medical facility for treatment, but has since been released from medical care. Sheriff’s officials declined to say which victim was airlifted or to which facility.

Initial reports indicated that the gunman shot into a crowd of people. There were about a dozen other people listed as being at or near the address at the time, but it is not known whether they were in the line of fire.

Rivera was arrested on June 21 in connection with the Scarlet Lane shooting, according to information released Tuesday by sheriff’s officials.

According to the N.C. Department of Public Safety, Rivera has numerous convictions in Sampson and Duplin counties dating back to 2013, including multiple counts of felony breaking and entering and larceny, which has landed him behind bars through the years.

Court records show his most recent conviction, for driving while impaired in Sampson, came in May 2018. His sentence was suspended in that case and he was given three months probation, a status that is still listed as active.

As a result of his arrest, Rivera’s probation was revoked by N.C. Probation and Parole, sheriff’s officials said.

The investigation into the June 17 shooting is still ongoing and anyone who has additional information is encouraged to contact investigators at the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, at 910-592-4141.
