Students use summer to get ahead

It is summer time, a time when students are accustomed to a break before the next session. For many though, summer is also a time to hit the books, just like fall and spring. This is why year-round, Sampson Community College operates the Academic Success center in the library of the college.

“The ASC is a great environment for group study,” says Carole Phipps, Division Chair of Arts and Sciences. “One of the best ways students can be successful is to seek help when they need it. Tutoring is one the best avenues for receiving that help.”

Faculty and staff encourage students to take advantage of the learning opportunities offered by the ASC in the summer just as they do during spring and fall semesters. Among opportunities available to students are tutoring, open computer lab, collaboration areas, free printing, computer and Moodle support, and password resets.

Donna Odum, SCC’s Director of Library Services, says the goal is simple.

“Our primary mission is to help students achieve success and the Academic Success Center is one of our best resources available.” For more information about the Academic Success Center at SCC, contact Wanda Kenny at 910-900-4117 or wkenny@sampsoncc.edu.
