After several dress rehearsals this week, the cast of “Hairspray” will present for our audiences the long-waited musical comedy that so thrilled them when we first produced the show in 2013.

Director Angela Martin has essentially the same individuals playing the same role they had initially for the most part but with a few exceptions. Dr. Steven Miller who is the principal at Clinton High School is performing for the first time on the big stage of the Sampson Community Theater as Mr. Spritzer and the principal. Dayln Padgett and Kaitlyn Royal are returning as Corny Collins’ teens. Dayln attends East Carolina University and her father, Guy Padgett, is also in the cast. Kaitlyn attends UNC Chapel Hill and was in our recent production of “Fame”.

Lila Maxwell, with assistance from Dan Holland on construction, has created and designed a fantastic Mr. Pinky’s Hefty Hidaway set that is truly spectacular and along with Anne Wicke’s back drops and side panels the stage is ready for opening night this Friday, July 6, at 7:30 p.m.

We wish to thank Performance Dodge/Ford for their sponsorship of “Hairspray” and we suggest you get your tickets early at Inkspot or Matthew’s Gifts. The box office will be open for an hour before each performance so come early to get the seat you want.

Thoughts until next week:

Would a fly without wings be called a walk?

One nice thing about egotists: They don’t talk about other people.

What was the best thing before sliced bread?
