‘Hairspray’ cast prepares for final weekend

By Bruce Caldwell - Contributing columnist

The cast of “Hairspray,” which numbers over 60 members, gave their first five performances at the Sampson Community Theater last Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

They will repeat this format again this weekend giving them a few weeks of summer vacation before school starts. This cast has been characterized by their talent and energy and our audiences have appreciated them with applause after each song and dance. In fact when the audiences leave the theater after attending this show they have big smiles and a lively, energetic step indicating their pleasure of seeing this collection of talent which lives in our midst.

Director Angela Martin was so happy with the casts performances she was smiling more than usual and that’s saying a lot.

We thank Performance Dodge/Ford for their sponsorship of “Hairspray.”

The box office will be open for one hour before each show. Due to the near sellouts it is suggested you get your tickets early at Matthew’s Gifts or at Inkspot and come early to get the seat you want.

Auditions for “Annie, Jr.” were held during our Theater Summer Day Camp and the cast will consist of 48 youngsters, ages 5-14. There will be only three performances on Saturday July 21 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. with one performance on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. This is a Patron Sponsored event so you who have tickets may be able to see this show.
