This house, located in the 8200 block of Hobbton Highway, across the roadway from St. Peter United Holy Church and just north of Turlington Lumber Company, was gutted by a towering blaze Monday night. Nearby Halls Volunteer Fire Department along with units from across Sampson County responded around 7:30 p.m. to put out the inferno, which hollowed out the structure. Most of the facade, though charred, was left standing on Tuesday. Signs of water used in putting out the flames was evident in the front yard. No one was believed to be injured and a cause was not immediately known.
