The Clinton-Sampson Chamber of Commerce and the Sampson County Small Business Center are partnering together once again for another Food Truck Rodeo.

The rodeo will be held Wednesday, May 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Diners will have the chance to indulge in six food trucks, including Southern Smoke BBQ, The Little Chef, Somethin’ Good, Taqueria Tierra Caliente Mexican Food, The Hot Dog Shack and Pelican’s Snoballs.

The Food Truck Rodeo will be held at Sampson County Community College, where it is easily accessible for all. All college students, staff and community members are welcome.

“We can’t wait to offer this unique business concept to both the food truck owners and Sampson County citizens again,” said Allison Strickland, executive director of the Clinton-Sampson Chamber of Commerce.

“I think it is beneficial to Sampson County that two separate agencies can work together for the benefit of local businesses and the entire community. I feel fortunate to be part of such a great partnership,” added Bart Rice, director of the Sampson County Small Business Center at SCC.

The Chamber and Small Business Center are looking forward to providing another opportunity for these businesses to get their name out to the community. All food trucks were called on last fall by invitation only and had such a successful event, they all asked to return this spring.

Southern Smoke BBQ of Garland is almost a household name in Sampson County and with a new cookbook release from owner Matthew Register this spring, it’s expected to have even more folks to show up to taste their southern-style barbecue, ribs and brisket.

The Little Chef, a new Chamber member, is originally from Duplin County but well known around Sampson County for their catering services and unique menu. The ladies of The Little Chef have worked with Timberlake Golf Club over the years and have most recently benefited from recent collaborations with The Ashford Inn in Clinton for a brunch series, open house and private parties.

Somethin’ Good will be joining the line up again after winning over rodeo-goers in the fall with their pimento cheese, jalapeno cheese burger last fall.

T.T. Caliente serves authentic Mexican food. From tacos, burritos, enchiladas to nachos — they serve it all.

The partnership is offering two new additions to the Food Truck Rodeo this time around — Chamber members The Hot Dog Shack and Pelican’s Snoballs of Roseboro. The Hot Dog Shack is located in front of M&W Diesel Repair, a hobby for retired Ricky Carter. It can be found at 913 Southeast Blvd., Clinton, open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

“Food truck rodeos are great,” Rice has said. “It gives operators a chance to maybe get into markets they haven’t explored before or in some cases perhaps they are considering opening a restaurant and want to expose their foods to see what people are into first.”

Strickland said another big one is on tap.

“We are truly setting up a day of culinary adventure for Sampson County with six different food trucks. It’s going to be a great community event,” she stated.
