Ducks Unlimited is looking forward to another fun-filled day with children and teenagers enjoying the outdoors.

The Clinton-Sampson Ducks Unlimited Greenwing Activity Day is scheduled for 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at the former Greens Bridge Golf Course, 52 Old Tom Morris Road, Garland.

Ducks Unlimited committee member Keith Jones is ready for a big turnout of kids enjoying fishing and other activities.

“The pond has lots and lots of fish in it, so they’ll get to fish for a couple of hours,” Jones said.

Tickets for participants 17 and under are $20 and includes an annual membership with a magazine subscription, fishing rod, tackle, food and refreshments. The price also comes with a T-shirt and a goodie bag with gifts from sponsors. There is no cost for admission for parents with their children. Event leaders are encouraging visitors to bring folding chairs or items desired for fishing.

Officers from the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission are setting up a BB gun trailer, which includes usage and safety lessons. There will also be a bow-and-arrow station with targets. For older youths, live skeet shooting is on the agenda.

Smokey the Bear is scheduled to make an appearance with demonstrations by retriever organizations for dog demonstrations. Bouncy houses for children will also be available.

“It give them a new look on things,” Jones said about kids being outdoors. “Most of them are not accustomed to being able to shoot a BB gun or bow and arrow. It gives them a different outlook on activities and learning things about nature versus looking at a TV screen all day.”

Ducks Unlimited Inc., is a private non-profit organization dedicated to conserving wetland habitats for waterfowl and other wildlife. Since its founding in 1937, Ducks Unlimited has raised nearly billions of dollars to conserve acres of land in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The local chapter has hundreds of members.
