Two arrested in Saturday stabbing on Butler Avenue

Two suspects have been arrested on felony assault charges in connection with the stabbing of a man on East Butler Avenue Saturday, following investigation by the Clinton Police Neighborhood Improvement Team.

Frank Smith Jr., 33, of 1072 Wards Bridge Road, Warsaw, and Susan Darlene Smith, 34, of 40 Knorr Lane, Clinton, have been charged in the assault of Tyrone Chevallier, 36, who was found by police with stab wounds to his torso just before 1 p.m. Saturday.

Frank Smith and Susan Smith were both charged with assault with a deadly weapon intending to kill and inflicting serious injury and communicating threats. Susan Smith received additional charges of resist, delay, and obstruct a law enforcement officer and probation violations.

At approximately 12:52 p.m. Saturday, Clinton Police uniform patrol officers responded to a disturbance at 300 East Butler Ave. in Clinton. Upon arrival, officers found two subjects injured, one stabbed and one shot.

Chevallier had stab wounds to the upper torso and was transported to Sampson Regional Medical Center, treated and released. Priscilla Ann Washington, 38, of Cranberry Lane, Clinton, had gunshot wounds to the abdomen and was taken to Sampson Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Wake Medical for surgery.

“Investigators believe the motive for the assault was an earlier dispute between the individuals,” a statement from the department said. “Additional arrests are imminent.”

Frank Smith was taken to the Sampson County Detention Center and placed under $100,000 bond. Susan received a $106,000 bond.
